The Posewitz Free River Fishing Access Site interpretation celebrates the impact people have to protect woodlands and river ecosystems. It shares a 1970s era story of a dam that never blocked the Yellowstone River because of the hard work and persistence of biologists and community members during a time of energy growth across the west. The riparian area and natural ecosystem that thrives in the absence of the dam is highlighted, encouraging visitors to explore the free river fishing site.
Project Goals
- Visitors to the Posewitz Free River FAS will understand why the Allenspur Dam was proposed and if ultimately constructed, what it would have changed in the Paradise Valley.
- Visitors will be able to identify some of the benefits of a free-flowing river ecosystem for both nature and the human community.
- Visitors will connect with the power that everyday people can have on the conservation and stewardship of places they value.
- Visitors to the Posewitz Free River FAS will be inspired to be active in land conservation and stewardship activities.
