Project Scope
Iris Coffee, managed by the Missoula College Big Sky Culinary Institute, was named after an osprey, Iris, in 2019. Iris began nesting along the Clark Fork River near the College in 1998. When the current campus facility was constructed, the osprey nest was protected and now a camera hosted by the College shows people from all over the world, the interesting lives of osprey on the Clark Fork River.
This project was completed with University of Montana and Missoula College student input in writing, research, and artwork. The whole project is a collaboration with the Montana Osprey Project, Raptor View Research, MPG Ranch and others. Field to Frame provided the student guidance, educational leadership, and project management. A semester-long internship included instruction in interpretive writing, research, planning and project implementation.
Project Objectives
- Share the story of osprey on the Clark Fork River
- Connect students and visitors with Iris, the osprey and namesake of the coffee shop
